I’m trying to enter a few more design competions, with the view that I’ll try and work out of the comfort zone of my usual style. That basically means not using Illustrator.
One of the latest contests I’ve entered in is one to design a tour poster for Robyn. If I’m honest, this is just something I’ve thrown together relatively quickly, and the same goes for the other design I’ve done, which will follow this post.
If anything, I only entered because some of the other submissions were just so awful*. I wanted to demonstrate that well considered typography (hierarchy and layout) is integral to achieving effective and successful graphic design, and it doesn’t have to take up much time - even if my design wasn’t as well thought out and original as my usual work. I realise that this makes me come across as being incredibly arrogant, but it stems back to my issue of people who think they’re a Graphic Designer just because they can open Photoshop and save a file through it.
You can see the other entries here, and judge for yourself. Maybe I’m being a little harsh? http://www.creativeallies.com/design-contest/162-Robyn-Body-Talk-Tour-Poster-Design-Contest
*I should note, there are actually a few nicely considered designs too. Just for the number of entries, the ratio of good to bad is pretty awful.
